Alaska in May aboard Summit

May

Pros: Great service, good entertainment, good food

Cons: Engine noise in Level 2 cabin, lack of pre-cruise excursion information

Recommended: Yes

Overall we had a great trip and experience. We did not partake in any of the special restaurants and enjoyed the dinning room for suppers and the buffet at breakfast. We were happy with the classic beverage package - it worked well for us. We paid for the onboard spa package, which I probably wouldn't do again. While it was nice, there just wasn't a lot of time to take advantage of it. My husband didn't use it at all. There was a lack of information about the pre-cruise train excursion (where are we supposed to be and how do we get there). We didn't receive any information about that at all and ended up going to the train depot when we should have gone to the airport. It all worked out, but that was a bit of a stressor. I would go again. I honestly didn't really notice any difference in the level of service or food from the times we sailed on Royal Caribbean ships.

Panamá Canal

April

Pros: Crew was exemplary. Food was great. Entertainment was top notch. Staterooms very comfortable.

Cons: Shore excursions were a bit rushed.

Recommended: Yes

I would highly recommend this 16 day repositioning cruise. There was always something going on during sea days. We enjoyed the highly knowledgeable and entertaining Beyond the Podium speakers. We never missed their presentations. Our staterooms were serviced twice a day always when we were gone so it was never inconvenient. If we had any special request, ie an extension cord, the room attendant always provided. Overall the cruise was worth every penny and I would highly recommend this ship and the itinerary.

Panama Canal in Style

April

Pros: A smaller ship that does the full transit in the original locks.

Cons: Needs more port opportunities.

Recommended: Yes

Beautifully updated ship with a crew that provides unparalleled service. The menus over the 16 nights were varied and delicious. The entertainment was wonderful. We had a variety of production shows, singers, comedians and a magician. We loved the Retreat! We were treated like royalty from the time we entered the terminal until we reluctantly left the last morning. The Retreat staff held special events in the Retreat lounge including senior officer meet and greets, delicious treats and drinks. I can't say enough good things about this ship and crew. Highly recommend.

Beautiful landscapes - the land trip gets the best reviews on this combination package

September

Pros: Quiet staterooms, good stateroom service, good bar service

Cons: Food, except for one meal, is mediocre to average; security staff is rude

Recommended: Yes

The tour by Alaska Premier Tours from Fairbanks to Seward was outstanding. The cruise was merely average, but it is made up for by being in Alaska.
